Know what I love? Gorgonzola cheese. But that's not relevant right now - know what ELSE I love?? The submission email that metaphist sent for this superfunkadelic Sonic & Knuckles jam that's chock full o' DAT RAPID-FIRE SLAP BASS:
"It's been a long time since I subbed something. I dabbled in remixes all the while and nothing seemed to click, but fortunately the planets seemed to align for this one. It all started when I found out about Nerdapalooza in my hometown of Orlando FL, and couldn't miss an opportunity to see the One Ups get down live. I had no idea that I would run into Mr. Larry Liontamer Oji himself at an OCR table there. I chatted with him and Level 99 (cool dude) for a while before he eventually asked me my name, and I must say that the enthusiasm and surprise that followed was something I honestly did not expect. Not only did he remember me and my submission despite the years, but had a lot of encouraging words and nothing short of a demand for more music. It was then settled - I would get off my ass and really make some music for OCR.
The events that followed were quite divine. Larry hooked me up with a hard copy of The Sound of Speed (amazing Sonic). I happened to stumble upon the chiptune album FM Funk Maddness (amazing funk). I happened to get the Death Egg theme stuck in my head (not so amazing, but quite coincidental). Then, the spirits of Larry, DJP, and Sebastian Shaw (NOT Hayden Christensen) appeared before me at a party with small furry creatures, and I then knew what must be done!
Shout outs to Superior X for naming my remix and giving feedback, Larry for the encouragement past and present, DJP, virt, and Bomb Boy for funk inspirations, and the whole OCR community for being what it is."
THAT'S how you write a submission email; might be light on the technical details, but I get mentioned right alongside virt in the props section (honored & humbled), there's tons of awesome name-dropping all over the place, it's heartfelt, and he even worked in a Hayden Christensen bitch slap. Can you ask for more? Well yes, you can - you can ask for a great mix to go along with it, which Paul delivers. Besides a jive-talkin' slap bass, you've got slick EP, wah clav, and a heapin' helpin' of synth for a well-rounded arsenal of funk flavor. The ReMixer resubbed this based on panel feedback and made it EVEN FUNKIER - OA exclaims:
"Nice touchups, definitely feeling this arrangement! That bass is ridonku-groovin(tm), there are some nice breakdowns and changeups, and some solid clav-i-motionz(tm). This is great stuff, I love it!!!"
DarkeSword exclaims EVEN MORE:
"I love this. That slap bass has a really lo-fi retro arcade game soundtrack sound to it, like Sonic and Tails in some Final Fight-esque beat 'em up where they cruise the streets of DEATH EGG CITY beating up the BADNIK GANG. OH! SHELLSHOCK! Diggin' those gated synths and the smooth rhodes. Love it!"
So glad Paul bumped into Larry at Nerdapalooza, and so glad the love-child of this serendipitous confluence of events is such a funky, distinct, and enjoyable follow-up arrangement from an artist whose debut back in 2009 foretold great things. Took a few years, but glad to see you again - great stuff, THIS IS HOW I LIKE MY EGGS!

Pretty clear here that you don't need the title to tell you how funky this is. I adore the middle breakdown section with all my heart because it just sounds so damn slick. That slap bass is crazy and like DarkeSword pointed out, it sounds like it would fit right in at home in a Final Fight area (hell, most of this ReMix would). Well done, fella!

This remix is all shades of awesome! Slap bass + electronica = WIN! This is going in my favorites list (which is a very selective list btw)

The title of this is perfect.
This song is perfect.
It's just perfect. :3
if this was any funkier, Funky Kong's head would explode.

My man metaphist! YES!!! I've been waiting a long time to see this one on the front page. I can't say enough good stuff about this mix; it's just downright funky and you can't help but love it. That lead synth and the slap bass just work so well together. This is one of my favorite mixes in recent memory, for sure. And if you all like this, just you wait, Paul is bringing the funk (in more than one way!) on the upcoming OCR Sonic CD album!

I remember when this was in the workshop, I downloaded it back then and I still jam to it on my bass from time to time. Good to see it posted, great job metaphist!
