SEPTEMBER IS FLOOD MONTH!! Last year we started a tradition of hitting you hard & repeatedly with badass batches of beautiful musics, and now we reprise the ritual with our first flood of the month: FIVE AWESOME NINTENDO MIXES! Up first is Blue Magic (Damon Campbell) with his mellow, acoustic guitar-led, electro-folk groove from the GBA side of DKC3:DT:

"I was really feeling the original when I first heard it. I was fortunate to have a couple of original songs that I felt could work very well with the Waterfall theme. So, I put them all together, and this is what I ended up with. I also worked with a few of my newer samples and VSTs to create a more unique style of music, compared to my previous works. Many thanks to Emunator for including me in this awesome soundtrack and thank you all for taking the time to listen to my work."

A wise trio of empowered females once collectively suggested that we NOT go chasing waterfalls, but it seems to have worked out pretty well for Damon... DragonAvenger writes:

"This is a very personalized version of the song, and I really enjoyed listening to this one. I liked the incorporation of original material; it fit in very well and added to the overall structure and feel of the track. The soundscape is nice, and the choice of instruments works well. The song does get a tad repetitious near the end. There isn't much in the way of dynamic contrast, which would have been a nice addition, although it isn't overly missing out without too much change. Otherwise, production is pretty good.

Very laid back, like I'm relaxing at a beach with a waterfall nearby and a strawberry daiquiri on hand."

That mental image certainly works for me; in the needs-laughtrack words of Arnie in T2:JD, I need a vacation. But you know what? Let's make that a white russian instead of a daiquri, because the dude abides, etc. plus I love white russians so much, I married one ;) Palpable adds:

"The chill vibe is sweet and the expansion upon the original is very nice. I liked the light glitchy percussion, which gave this an X-factor that wasn't too obtrusive."

Bottom line? It's a relaxing, end-of-summer, laid back kinda groove that you're not gonna mosh or probably even head-bob to, but which puts you in that feet-up, sunglasses-on, staring-out-at-the-water comfort zone & keeps you there. Great work from Blue Magic.

The song on the GBA half of the album that I was waiting for was this one. SO glad that the piano intro was kept in and used a few times, because that’s what made the source one of my favorite songs on the GBA game. Nice, chill, almost hip-hip beat goes with the waterfall so well. This is pretty sweet ReMix that I could totally relax to. Great work.

I'm not normally one for glitch style percussion mixed with 'live' instruments but the subtle use of it in this track works very well. As Chernabogue mentioned above the mix of ethnic instrumentation and electro is a strange one but in this case it all meshes nicely. The only part that didn't really work for me was the synth at around 01:20. It work very well all throughout the track but at that particular point it just stands out a little too much and get's a bit distracting.

Other than that minor quibble though I really like this, very chilled and relaxing. Nice work!

It’s very easy to get lost in this track. Very relaxing, work silently to yourself music. Or even music to take a walk to. It’s so relaxing, that if you listen to it too much, you might end up falling asleep wherever you’re at. Not to say this track is boring, it’s just very hypnotizing.

Nice mix of tropical and electro elements. The guitar sounded a bit unrealistic at some points like Timaeus pointed (the piano too but it was used less), but that's far from being a problem because it blends well with the rest of the instruments. The overall atmosphere is very cool, and the choice of electro percussion over ethnic/world ones is interesting too.

Nice tropical feel here. I thought the piano was rather thin and the guitar was most noticeably fake (especially 1:58-2:04), but it wasn't enough to detract too much from the solid execution and cohesive soundscape here. Not much of a fan of the clap you used, but the glitched BPed percussion was pretty cool.
