Mazedude!!! It's been too long! 2015 was a rare, Mazedudeless year for OCR, but 2016 is rectifying that situation right here in the first quarter with a funky, quintessentially Getman take on "Lorenzo's Soil" from Earthworm Jim 2 which also incorporates some more modern elements:

"What's this? A blast from the past? Yep, well, it's been a weird hiatus on my end, but I'm finally getting clear from some of the insanity of the past couple years. As part of it, I'm pushing to finish American Pixels, the sequel to The American Album. (The writing is all done on that, BTW, I just need to finish the mastering, artwork, licensing, printing... you know, the easy stuff). And, as part of that push, I want to get some of my tunes that never made it to OCR, well, on OCR. Remind folks who Mazedude is and what he's done, yadda yadda. Why not one of my personal favorites from the American Album, "Glow Worm Jim"?

This still stands as one of my favorite tracks from the original American Album. Most of it was tracked while experiencing insomnia; I couldn't sleep, so I remixed, woke up in a haze the next day, listened to it, and was all like "Damn, I made that?! Nice!" Granted, it doesn't always happen that way, but when it does, it's a freakin' rush.

I hope it's not a problem that I'm submitting a 10-year-old track; I actually have some other classics I'd like to submit here and there, one every few weeks, while I continue to inch towards completion of American Pixels (which I'll be promoting the hell out of before too long). Enjoy the nostalgia, and brace yourself for more to come."

You won't hear ME complaining; Mazedude's sound is timeless, juxtaposing trackerish sample sensibilities with modern production techniques & throwing in the kitchen sink for an aesthetic that's very much his own, so whether it's ten years old or ten days, it's gonna be different, it's gonna be good, and it's gonna be worth your time. This is of course the same source that dream team Danny B, Vig, and zyko (who I *finally* met in person at MAG this year) put out a legendary ReMix of back in 2004 - TWELVE YEARS AGO (OMG WE'RE OLD) - but Chris is obviously gonna have his own spin & vision for Tallarico's source tune; Larry writes:

"It's great to have this piece officially submitted to OCR as a standalone track, because it always deserved a place here. The original theme by Tommy Tallarico (Happy belated birthday!) has a distinct underground vibe for the Lorenzen's Soil level, while Mazedude goes for a more ambient yet beat-driven style. The synth work and mixing has aged so well in that it could have been made yesterday. Structurally, Chris had the subtlety game down pat with a very gradual, deliberate escalation of the song that worked so well that I didn't even notice the piece was nearly 7 minutes. I already pre-ordered American Pixels way back, so I'm excited to see what new work Chris has brewing; I know the same level of care and polish - improved by a decade's additional experience, of course - will be on full display!"

This is one of Tommy T's best, most iconic game compositions, so I'm glad we've now got an alternatve arrangement/interpretation. Chris also ReMixed Cool Spot way back when, with a chipper, quirky pick-me-up style that'll make you smile if you're feeling down, guaranteed. Excellent old gold from Mr. Getman - enjoy, and be on the lookout for American Pixels!

I've been listening to this since it's original release more than ten years ago. Absolutely one of my favorite songs. You can just strut down the street to this, it lifts your mood right up!

Every time I listen to this, I'm beckoned to go on a journey. Starting and ending things is a soft, warm pad that makes me imagine a sunset backdrop illuminating the path before me, and I proceed to half-dance, half-walk along, accompanied by catchy beats and quirky synthwork expressing the trials and wonders of the experience. One of my favorite aspects is how the pattern entering at 2:41 morphs into a new type at 4:01 - suddenly, it's bouncier and funkier, gearing me up for more.

Still one of my all-time favorite remixes.
