ReMix:Seiken Densetsu 3 "Brooding Tolerance" 4:08

Next up from Seiken Densetsu 3: Songs of Light and Darkness come Dan & Frank Johansen, aka The Dual Dragons, with an atmospheric rock jam laced with Indian elements & rife with searing lead electric guitar. Album director Rozovian writes:

""Intolerance" is an oft-recurring track in the game that easily lands in the memory of the player. This take on it takes that familiar thing and gives it a strangely unfamiliar feel. It took me a long time to hear the connections between this and the source; something about the intro throws me off. It could be the tempo. But man, I like that intro. Even more now that I recognize it. A different feel, so a fresh take on the source. It's nice to hear something calmer from the Dual Dragons too. Not that they can avoid making it epic."

We haven't featured anything from TDD since 2012, so it's damn good to get their crisp, energized rock/metal tones back on the OCR homepage, and they've actually got three MORE tracks on the album. Some of the intonation on the lead almost sounds like a sitar, and Rozo was correct to point out that this is actually laid-back relative to their other work, but there's still plenty of energy. Liontamer writes:

"I agreed with Rozo that picking out the source tune was difficult in places, as the beginning sections were very liberal. That said, once we got to 1:34, the source tune connections were more overt. Taking a militaristic theme and totally overhauling into a contemplative rock epic was not something I expected, yet here we are. Their other tracks on Songs of Light and Darkness are more aggressive & in your face, so don't you worry if you need that box checked. That said, Rozo wanted to make sure the Dual Dragons' extensive work on this album was recognized and appreciated in the mixflood, and to me there's no better example of Frank and Dan's ability to completely transform an original theme into something uniquely different than this piece. Nice work!"

Indeed; of their four cuts on SD3:SLD, this is less aggressive and more contemplative, but still in their wheelhouse & convincing/enjoyable, in addition to having an interpretive, transformative arrangement. Absolutely thrilled to see Dan & Frank back on OCR, and to see their considerable contributions to this album recognized in our initial flood of mixes!
