Oh damn - PsyNES (Jari) returns from a five-year hiatus with a double dose of intense, infectious, and ridiculously swag EDM; psytrance of sorts, in this case, taking on Darkwing Duck and upping the flamboyance factor by ten... thousand:
"Here is new submission from me. Finally got some time/inspiration to do these submission emails again. This is already 3 years old ReMix, but I decided to try update it a little bit and submit. I started remixing this track because I liked the funkiness of the original. I thought I would try how it would sound as psytrance'ish/suomisaundi-style ReMix. I think it turned really nice, funky suomisaundi stuff. I personally like it. This is made with Renoise as well as all my remixes and my own tracks. Renoise 4ever! :)"
When there's trouble you call... suomisaundi, apparently. I'm not sure I could articulate its characteristics very persuasively, but this is an absolutely manic, over-the-top-energized, pumping jam that's got fistfuls of swagger & buckets of sway. It's fun, it's micro-sequenced to the tiniest details, and the production oozes with tweaks, textures, & tension as a bouncy psy-bass anchors it all down and prevents it from simply flying away. Judges had some concerns on things being overworked a bit, but DarkeSword's decision struck me as closest to my own:
"Used to play this game a lot when I was a kid. This is pretty fantastic. This track really bumps. I thought the melody was getting a little lost in the beginning but it broke out so it's not an issue. Lots of small details; good attention paid to stuff like articulations. I don't agree with the "repetitive" points other Js are making. The structure here is pretty classic. I'm into this."
I'm thinking this mix is like Crossfire, because you'll get caught up in it. It goes on a bit, perhaps, but Jari is mixing it up, modulating textures, keeping the kettle boiling and the stew moving around & around, and the net result is a hypnotic, mesmerizing sort of buoyancy. It kinda reminds me of caravan or electro-swing or whatever, but more synthetic and quirkier and cross-bred with psytrance DNA. At any rate, five years is too long, great to hear more work from Jari, this treatment has all the panache & confidence of Darkwing Duck himself, it's an under-arranged NES classic, and we've got another track coming your way tomorrow!

Very strong intro! This remix was an absolute bop from start to finish. That bass was PHAT smooth and groovy. The percussion was tight and this remix just had a flair for style and coolness. Excellent job on this!

I've been working on attempts at Psytrance and find the style interesting. That said I think PsyNES knocked this out of the park. It's got great energy and lots of swag. I really like it.

Totally agree that this sounds like electro-swing but a bit "trancier" LOOOVE both style, love this remix!!

Ha I just heard from jarski about this. This is great. It's bouncy, it's got swing, it's groovy. It doesn't sound too bassy or anything to me. Keep bringing that energy!
