Synesthesics (Sandro Kreher) returns & follows up a mellower Mirror's Edge debut from 2018 with this energized big beat update of the XG3 (PS2) menu theme:

"Back with another remix, this time from Extreme-G3 menu theme. No idea who the performer is, but I think this is the only unlicensed artist... the other race music tracks are all by licensed artists. Loved this theme and reminds me of the first Extreme-G menu theme. ;) Enjoy."

We're edging into that era of gaming where Extreme-G is now considered retro by some, but I still mentally file it as more modern due to living through much earlier eras. XG3 had predominantly licensed tracks for each stage, but also some original title/menu music from Nick Arundel & Stuart Duffield. Sandro's previous Mirror's Edge mix was a great debut with slick production that was more contemporary/downbeat, while this embraces its 90's-era Fatboy Slim with acidic synth squelch lines & breaks that are large and in charge; Sir_NutS hits it on the head:

"This stuff brings me back to the late 90s/early 00s when Big Beat was still a hot genre. I think you managed to represent that very well here. It's not a big departure from the original, and the genre doesn't lend that much into melodic content so it's mostly repeated synth lines that evolve and modulate with time. There's always some addition/subtraction of layers going on and I never felt it got too crowded. I think the strength of this track lies in its solid synth work and representation of this genre at its peak, while also doing justice to the original track."

Yes; precisely that. It's not a huge departure, but it takes what was good + fun about the source tune & amps it up the laste 90s/early naughts big beat nines. Like a new suit of clothes, but with enough tweaks and additive/subtractive alteration and extension to check the arrangement boxes & transform the structure a smidge. Fun, unexpected-but-very-welcome PS2 throwback action from Synesthesics!

This remix definitely has a nostalgic feel, the style callback was definitely a lot of fun to listen to and this screams early 2000's playstation era music. I am 0 percent surprised that the source is a racing game. Great job on this!

Fairly generic repetitive electronica but it's good if you're into that sort of thing.
